FOOTBALL: Week 7 preview

Anderson (6-0) at Truman (2-4), 7 p.m. tonight: This is a classic “banana peel” game for Anderson.

Truman is a solid team, but the Titans could be looking ahead because of scheduling circumstances.

Anderson just routed longtime rival Allen Park last week, ending the Jags’ hopes of an eighth straight Michigan Mega Conference Red division title.

Next week the Titans could face Dearborn Fordson in a potential battle of unbeatens for the Mega Red championship.

Anderson has to take care of business in Taylor if it wants to go to Dearborn with a perfect record.

Few teams have been able to move the ball against the Titans this year and it will be interesting to see if the Cougars pass or run and how they fare.

Truman went 1-4 to start the season last year but rallied for four straight wins and a playoff berth. One of the Cougars’ victims last year was Anderson.

Truman welcomes the juggernaut Titans coming off a convincing thumping of Belleville last week.

The Cougars went back to their T formation and played smash-mouth in the second half against the Tigers in an effort to get more physical.

Dan Lindsey has been the full-time back while twin brother and cohort Nate heals up from an ankle injury.

In the meantime, quarterback Ryan Hargraves and receiver Chris Johnson have been a special combination.

After switching to a high-flying passing offense this season, Truman Coach Bob Rowe decided at half-time of Friday's Belleville game to get back to basics.

In the process, the Cou-gars switched back to it's T formation and found its toughness.

Using its old formation, Truman rolled over the Tigers with a 28-0 second half in a 48-20 win.

At halftime Rowe was irked as the Cougars were tied 20-20 at last-place Belleville (0-6, 0-5).

"I think we lost a little toughness by throwing it around and playing fi-nesse," Rowe said. "We played a good second half."

Truman's first drive af-ter halftime saw it score on a 37-yard play-action pass from Ryan Hargraves to Chris Johnson.

Hargraves then hit Pre-ston Ingram on a two-point conversion for a 28-20 lead.

The Cougars added to the lead when Dan Lindsey broke a 63-yard touchdown run on their next drive, but the extra-point was missed.

In the fourth quarter's opening minute Truman finished off another drive with points, this time an Ingram 9-yard touchdown run, although a two-point conversion try failed.

Midway through the fourth quarter Hargraves found Raphael Sanders on a 46-yard scoring pass.

Chris Lawrence ran in the two-point try to finish the scoring.

"Once we started run-ning the ball on them, they stacked the line and opened up some big pass-ing plays for us," Rowe said. "We weren't playing tough football. We were going to run it right at them."

Truman totaled 375 rushing yards with Dan Lindsey getting 160 yards on 14 carries, Hargraves 77 on 10 and Lance Marshall 63 on two.

Through the air, Har-graves completed 14-of-17 passes for 192 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. His top tar-get Johnson caught six balls for 125 yards.

First-half touchdowns for Truman came on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Hargraves to Dan Lindsey, a 10-yard scoring strike to Johnson and a 53-yard touchdown run by Mar-shall.

Friday Truman (2-4, 1-4 Michigan Mega Confer-ence Red division) hosts co-leader Anderson (6-0, 4-0).
